Poor response to promotion meeting
The Ohakune Promotions Association held a meeting last Monday night that was to have been its Annual General Meeting but because it was so poorly attended there were insufficient members present to form a committee for 1984. A disappointed chairman, Mike Wiggins, said he was very puzzled at the lack of response from local businesses particularly since it had been arranged for a guest speaker, Mr John Lowrie, liaison officer for the New Zealand Tourist and Publicity Dept., to tell people about the financial assistance and tax incentives that are available to any business activities associated with the promotion of tourism. Only eleven people turned up for last week's meeting including the guest spead^ ... 12 are needed to fori^r committee. Mike Wiggins hopes for a bigger and better response at the re-scheduled meeting — a special AGM — which is to held in the Ohakune Borough Council Chambers on Monday 9 April at 8pm. The meeting will be open to the public and an invitation is extended to anyone who wants to contribute ideas and suggestions as well as to discuss the future of the Ohakune Promotions Association. "The Promotions Association needs help and we want to hear from people who are interested in promoting Ohakune and getting involved,"said Wiggins. "The Association has spent about $60,000 on the promotion of Ohakune over the last two years through television and newspaper advertising as well as the Ohakune 'Where Adventure Begins' brochure'." "The 200% increase in mid-week skiing and the 40% increase in the summer walks programme is probably due, at least in part, to the promotional work done by the Association," he said.
