Diesel fuel causes house fire

The Ohakune Fire Brigade answered a call to a house in Old Station Road last Thursday when diesel fuel being used to light a coal range ignited. The occupant of the house had used diesel fuel stored in a plastic container to help start the fire in the coal range but left the container on top of the range. As the range heated up the plastic melted and when the container was lifted, the diesel poured from the openended base and ignited. Prompt action by the brigade confined the damage to the floor area near the coal range and prevented the ignited fuel from spreading.
