SOFTBALL

An excellent day in ideal conditions was had to end the 1983 Waimarino Softball Association junior season with Round-Robin Tournament in which three teams from Taumarunui took part. The following were selected for these games: Team I From Raetihi, Mark Cribb, Grant Barrett, Shane Harris, Darren .Hawira. From Ohakune, Jason Paki, Wayne Hemara, Dale Hemara, Lesley McNaught. Coach: Paddy Potaka and Steven Hawira. Team 2 Tania Hibbard (O), Tina Te Moana (R), Stephen Reihana (O), Damien Brider (R), Mathew Haitana (R ), Lana Borlase (R). Coach: Robin and Lou Brider. Seleeted team: Waimarino Under 12 Boys: Regan Sue (Captain) (6), Anthony Callaghan (Q), Ttlex Peddieson (O), Heemi Hibbard (O), James Scrimgeour (O), Jackie Herewini (O), Loman Edwards (W), Anthony Poa (W), Peter Kingi (W). Coach: Sandy Peddieson. The winners for the Tournament were: Section 1, Raetihi 1 and Section 2, Raetihi 2. These teams received a softball trophy and there were also Player of the Match Awards, in which these players were given ribbons. To end a successful day of softball everyone enjoyed a barbecue tea before the visitors departed about 5.30 pm. Thanks to the parents who volunteered their services to sew and supplied transport each Saturday.
