Traditional Christmas plum puddings prepared

Seen mixing the ingredients for a traditional 'plumduff' in the bakery behind Ohakune 's Skiers Inn last month are Alan and Johnny Nation, but all the family — Audrey, Gay, Terrill and Stephen — were also involved in this age-old ritual. This was their first experience of making and offering their customers and friends a traditional homemade 'Xmas pud' as an alternative to the massproduced variety available from their shop. Seventeen 31b puddings resulted from this initial mix of ingredients which included an unspecified quantity of rum and 401bs of fruit. The muslin-wrapped puddings then had to be boiled for 4 hours and hung for a njonth before they are cooked again and eaten on Christmas Day.

The Nations have also made two huge fruit cakes containing $20 worth of 5cent pieces for their Christmas customers.
