OHAKUNE GARDEN COMPETITION RESULTS ANNOUNCED

Nineteen Ohakune gardens were entered in the garden competition which was organised by the Ohakune Garden Club in conjunction with Ohakune Borough Council. Judging took place last week. All three judges were from outside the borough and had made their own independent assessment of the gardens before meeting last Tuesday night to compare their marks and decide on the winners. First prize went to Mrs Audrey Whale of 118 Mangawhero Terrace. Second prize equal was shared by Mr Blue Forrest of 29 Lee Street and Mrs Ethel Martin of 28 Miro Street. ^ Each. prizewinner will l^ceive one rose bush and three shrubs which have been donated by the Ohakune Garden Club, the Ohakune Borough Council and Kunikraft. The winner will retain the cup for a year. Also commended for establishing new gardens were Mrs Trish Goddard of 52 Burns Street and Mrs Blair Rose of 98 Mangawhero Terrace Extension. The judges were Mrs Jacqueline Murray of Waiouru, Mrs Carol Round of Rangataua and Mrs Jean McFarlane of Karioi.
