AIR ACCIDENT REPORT EXPECTED SOON

The official accident report into the cause of last year's helicopter tragedy on Mt Ruapehu is expected to be released early in the New Year. The tragedy, which claimed the lives of five Waimarino people when a Wanganui Aero Works Jet Ranger crashed in darkness while testing search and m^ue spotlights, occurred ^Hover a year ago, on 9 ^^^ember 1982. The report which has been prepared by the Chief Inspector of Air Accidents, Mr Ron Chippendale, has already been sent to relatives

of those killed and the public can expect the findings to be available in the next few weeks. The compilation of the report has taken longer than usual and has not been easy, requiring as it did a trip to the manufacturer of the Bell Jet Ranger in the United States. A simple commemorative service was held for the victims on the first anniversary of this tragedy, by Tongariro National Park staff. It is hoped that a small monument may be placed on the crash site near the Ohakune Mountain Road below the Turoa Skifield,
