Studio opens in Raetihi

A new business venture, the Honeypot Ceramic Studio, opened in Raetihi last Saturday with discount offers to those who attended on the first day. Situated in the Te Aroha Youth Club Hall in Ward Street it will combine teaching of * ceramic techniques with the manufacture and marketing of its products. Raetihi born-and-bred Honey Winter, whose idea it is, has already taught between 50-60 local people the basic techniques in a series of 8-week courses. Honey attended a 2-week ceramic teachers course in Henderson, Auckland

recently. Because of the popularity of the local courses she wants to extend and develop the opportunities available to people in the Waimarino who want to learn more about this useful craft. Unlike pottery, which also uses clay but is formed by hand, the ceramic technique employs moulds into which the clay is poured before being glazed. and fired in a kiln. Ceramic products from the Honeypot Studio range from the ornamental and decorative to the practical and functional including oven proof kitchen ware.
