New Zealand ski instructors hold AGM in Ohakune

At the end of the ski instructors' course at Turoa the N.Z. Ski Instructors Alliance Incorporated held its Annual General Meeting in the Summit Bar of the Ohakune Hotel. It was to have been combined with the presentation of the Atomic-Salomon Cup for the annual members race. Due to prevailing conditions at the time the race was cancelled .much to the disappointment of all involved. The race and Annual General Meeting alternate between North and South lslands and when in the North. between Whakapapa and Turoa. so it will be 1987 before Turoa has another chance to host the race. The 1981 race was also cancelled. #to poor conditions. erner Hanni. importer Atomic Skis and Salomon bindings and boots must surely be disappointed after both his effprts to support racing in the North Island were

thwarted in 1983. He also sponsored the Disabled Skiers' National Championships which were scheduled forTuroa but due to conditions this season being unsuitable for disabled skiers to race, the championships were moved to Mount Hutt. The meeting involved the election of officers, President's Report and Annual Accounts and a small amount of General Business. Des Peters, Secre.taryT reasurer, gave a report on problems within the Australian ski instruction industry. Their earlier problems had been interstate with friction between New South Wales and Victoria. More recently problems centre on the fact that there are two organisations both of ski instructors but one being controlled by the Ski Areas' Association. They - are still striving for recognition from the International Ski Instructors' Association. something New

Zealand has had for several years. In this endeavour they invited Tony Graham, NZSIA President and Examiner, to officiate at the Falls Creek, Victoria, exams. Their employinga recognised international examiner should help them on their way to unity. Their jack of organisation in the past is evident by the number of Australian born instructors qualified by the NZSIA and working in the South Island. Elettion of Officers: President Tony Graham, Mt Hutt. Secretary / Treasurer Des Peter.s, Christchurch. North Island Committee l Dave Alison, Whakapapa and Heather Montgomery, Turoa. The South Island Committee of Stu Buxton, Coronet Peak and Sue Murray. Mt Hutt, remain in office until next year's Annual General Meeting in Methven. Thanks were extended to Ross and Gail Henry and their staff at the Ohakune Hotel for the use of facilities and provision of wine and snacks after the meeting. Heather Montgomery
