Raetihi Vet Clinic burgled
Burglars broke a window and smashed a locked cupboard causing about $60 worth of damage at the Raetihi Veterinary Clinic duringthe night of Thursday 10 November. Their reward? — $9 in cash! ! ! Particularly because of the large number of burglaries in the area lately, businesses are not keeping significant amounts of cash on their premises any longer. The chances of a burglar getting any more than petty cash is remote now according to Raetihi's constable Kevin Entwisle. Some businesses are • taking advantage of afterhours banking facilities to avoid having cash on their premises overnight. Several have installed underfloor safes that are m
impossible to remove. Many of these floor safes are now fitted with special dyespraying devices. Outside specific hours that are programmed into the safe's timing device any attempt whatsoever to tamper with the lid results in the money inside and the person tampering with the safe being sprayed with irridescent dye. The dye spray has a range of over one metre and, most significantly, the dye is impossible to remove from fabrics and takes at least 3 months to wear out on the skin. It is impossible to remove from skin by any means whatsoever, said Constable Entwisle. "It's great because an offender with this dye on them hasn't a show of avoiding detection eventually" he said.
