National Park School
Run for Fun — with rain falling from the skies, the spirits were high among the 21 runners (12 adults and 9 children) who started out on their races. Although all started off on level par, fitness soon became the priority. The field spread out, separating the runners from the joggers, and at the end there were a lot of puffed out, sweaty and wet people — but smiling, with sheer satisfaction. Although a couple of adult runners tried to shorten the distance, the race committee were understanding because they had run out of "puff" and couldn't finish the race any
other way. Winners were: Men 1st C Thorson (28.03); 2nd N Marchment. Ladies 1st B Armstrong (23.53); 2nd L ForbesBowring (23.53); 3rd D Prescott. Boys 1st M Kereopa; 2nd C Marchment; 3rd R Forbes. Girls 1st L Taituma; 2nd R. Newton; 3rd F Taituma. Cake Stall: This was very well supported and raised $143.00. Raffle: Rag Doll - Ticket 25, S Forbes 1st prize; ticket 14, T Pakau 2nd prize. ★ ★ ★ Working bees to complete the adventure playground, to build seats and cubby holes for the swimming pool changing sheds and to top trees have been organised by the "National Park School Committee. Originally planned for Saturday 5 November (which was rained out) and for the 12 November, a new date will be set to complete these tasks before the end of the term.
