Seeing is believing!

This unlikely team of cyclists comprise none other than Tony and Mary Wright (foreground) and Pam and Deryck Brown, all of Ohakune and better known in other spheres of endeavour. Tony is manager of T uroa Skifields, Mary and Pamare partners in The Sheepskin Shop and Deryck is manager of Hamilton's Bakery in Wanganui. They were seen heading out of Ohakune towards Owhango 35 miles (57 kms) away for a cycling/camping weekend ... and they made it! It wasn't easy ... they had to contend with strong head winds and driving rain for most of the way and by the time they reached their destination five hours later — after several rest stops —

they and their camping equipment were saturated. Instead of setting up camp as they had intended and attempting to light a fire with wet wood, they sought the refuge of the Owhango Hotel. There the new proprietors allowed the tired and hungry cyclists use of the hotei kitchen to prepare their meal after a hot and relaxing tub. A Next day, feeling refresll^ and ready for the road again they mounted their 10-speed steeds and headed back to Ohakune ... this time in fine warm weather. Other trips are planned
