COLLEGE NEWS

• Senior prizegiving will be held on Thursday 10 November at the Ruapehu College Hall. The ceremony will begin at 1.30pm and finish about 3.15pm. Guest speaker for the day is well known entertainer Howard Morrison. All parents are welcome to attend. • Senior dinner will be held on Thursday 10 November at the Ohakune Primary Hall. The evening begins with dinner at 7.30pm followed by a speech School from the guest speaker, Mrs Rae Cvitanovich, of the Wanganui Toastmistresses Club. Pupils sitting two or more University Entrance or Bursary subjects this year and their parents are invited to the dinner. • Thursday 27 and Friday 28 October. Form Five students spent all of both days working on their School Certificate Art Folios. The format and content of their folios was at the discretion of the students. They selected items from their year's syllabus to compose a final display of their work. These two days are essential to the completion of the folios.

They are also beneficial as the students soon realise their potential through this task. • The inter-house Debating semi-finals were held on Friday 28 October. The subject under debate was 'advertisments of liquor and cigarettes should be banned from television'. Tui House took the affirmative side of the argument against Huia House 's negative side: In another room Kiwi House was arguing the affirmative side of the same issue against the negative Weka House. Judges for the Huia vs Tui debate were Mrs N. Condon, Mrs V. Littlewood and Mr A. Cornwall. Winner of the debate was the negative side, Huia House. Judges for the Kiwi vs Weka debate were Mrs K. Journeaux, Mrs J. Doyle and Mrs M. Cornwall. Winner of the debate was again the negative side, Weka House. Members of the debating teams were: Kiwi House Robin Taylor (leader), Ashley Berry (2nd speaker), Rose Marie Paki (3rd

speaker). Weka House Anne Pawley (leader), Linda Davies (2nd speaker), Duane Dixon (3rd speaker. Tui House Terri Kyle (leader), William Farmer (2nd speaker), Charles Duncan (3rd speaker). Huia House Timothy Horne (leader), Dean Burrell (2nd speaker), Bernadine Skudder (3rd speaker). • Form Five students finish formal school lessons on Friday 1 1 November. For the rest of the school year they will be on study leave for school certificate exams. • On Wednesday 16 November University Entrance accrediting will be announced. Non-accredited Six Form students and Bursary Seven Form students will have their last day of formal lessons. They will then be on study leave for the rest of the school year. • Friday 2 Decemberis the last day of the school year and all students will be required back at school. They. will return their text books. Six Form studen^^ will receive their Sixth Fon^pCertificates. Students who paid their school fees for the year will receive a school magazine each.
