Awarded scholarship ...but needs help

Seventeen-year-old Ruapehu College 7th Former, Julieanne Grantham, (pictured) has been granted an American Field Service Scholarship to study overseas for 10 weeks from early December. She has elected to go to Thailand to stay with a host family, attend a local school and study a different culture. Julieanne heard that she had been selected for this scholarship only recently and is very excited about the prospects of this, her first ever trip overseas. Her only problem and worry is that, whilst the AFS provides her with free schooling and a host family who 'adopts' her during her stay, she has to provide her own finance for travel and other expenses. In order to raise the $3700

required, Ruapehu College and other organisations are arranging a number of fundraising activities before she leaves. Already staff of the College have collected $325 towards her trip and the pupils of 4CH have contributed another $75. But there 's still a long way to go in a very short time and the local community are being asked to support any fundraising activities connected with this very worthwhile cause.
