Raetihi Primary School

"We did fairly well considering the conditions this year," said Raetihi Primary School teacher, Carol Dean, "and managed to get 4 days skiing out of the 6 we were expecting." "We got three days in the 2nd Term and one in the 3rd Term before Turoa closed . . . the problem was not the weather so much as the lack of snow." The 80 or so children who took the skiing programme included 50 beginners. They used the car park rope t-ows for their first three lessons and then had to go right to the top of the second chair for their last visit. "Two other teachers, Fraser Smaill and Paul Ferors, did a marvellous job organising the skiing programme and we got excellent support from parents" said Carol Dean. The Turoa Ski School instructors were terrific too working as they had to with so many~ children under difficult conditions.
