The following cases were heard by Justice D. Lowe at the monthly Ohakune District Court sitting on Thursday 13 October. The hearings were held in the Ohakune Borough Council Chambers while renovation work continues on the Ohakune Courthouse building. Grant Lionel Taylor, 22, auto electrician of Wellington was convicted and fined $500, court costs $20, on a charge of burglary when he and an associate took almost $5000 worth of ski gear from Sports Country in Ohakune. ¥■ * * Gerald Osmond Ferguson, 1 7, student of Waiouru, pleaded guilty on two charges of receiving stolen goods. He was convicted and given a suspended sentence of two years and ordered to pay $ 1 00 toward the cost of prosecution on each ■ charge and ordered to pay $17 compensation for the cash and property that had not been recovered. On a further charge of getting onto a motorcycle unlawfully he was convicted and fined $150, court costs $20 and disqualified from driving for three months. ★ ★ ★ Dean Hiroti, 22, shearer of Raetihi, admitted a charge of assault at Ohakune on 13 August when he punched a petrol station attendant in the face. He was convicted and fined $400, court costs $20 and ordered to pay $150 to the complainant. ★ ★ ★ Paul Peter De La Mare, 20, of Ohakune, appeared for sentence following his earlier conviction on three charges of taking and presenting personalised cheques. He was sentenced to six months imprisonment to be spent in a youth institution because of his perceived immaturity. ★ ★ ★ Stanley James Nathan, 18, unemployed of Raetihi, was convicted and sentenced to three month's youth imprisonment on a charge of receiving stolen cash. On a charge of

threatening behaviour he was convicted and sentenced to prison for seven days to be served concurrently. ★ ★ ★ Francis Bristol, 21, selfemployed of Ohakune and Graham Alan Snowball, 23, self-employed trapper of Ohakune were both convicted and remanded for a probation officers report and sentence on a charge of burglary from Robin's Nest, a Raetihi clothing shop when goods to the value of $1800 were taken. Bristol also admitted and was convicted on a charge of burglary from Dekker Machinery in Raetihi when two scrubcutters valued at $650 were taken. For both men bail was set at $750 with a surety of $500 to appear in Ohakune on 10 November. ★ ★ ★ Gregory Tetomo Arani, fencer of Wanganui, admitted a charge of behaving in a threatening manner and was sentenced to 1 4 days in prison to be served concurrently with a present term. ★ ★ ★ Shane Brewer, 21, boat builder of Castlecliff, admitted a charge of theft of a motor vehicle from Wanganui. The vehicle was a Ford Anglia valued at $800 which wasdriven to Ohakune before being abandoned and torched in the Mangawhero River. Brewer was convicted and remanded for a probation officer's report and sentence in the Wanganui District Court. Bail was continued at $750 with a surety of a like amount. ★ ★ ★ Ronald Rongomai Jensen, 28, shearer of Raetihi, admitted one charge of careless driving and one charge of driving with a eXcess breath alcohol level, both offences occuring in Ohakune. He was convicted and discharged on the careless use charge and convicted and fined $250, court

costs $20 and disqualified from driving for six months on the excess breath alcohol charge. ★ ★ ★ Paddy Brian Chambers, 18, farmhand of Raetihi, admitted careless use of a motor vehicle at Ohakune and was convicted and fined $165, court costs $20, and ordered to re-sit his driver's licence. ★ ★ ★ Robert Francis Paul, 32, garden worker of Ohakune admitted a charge of driving with an excess breath alcohol level. He was convicted and fined $275, court costs $20 and disqualified from driving for six months. ★ ★ ★ John Stuart Pearson, 63, semi-retired of Raetihi, was convicted and fined $400, court costs $20, D.S.l.R fees of $32 and disqualified from driving for nine months on a charge of driving with an excess blood alcohol level. ★ ★ * Raymond Allan Martin, 34, plumber of Waiouru was convicted and fined $150, court costs $20, on a charge of driving without a licence at Waiouru^»
