Waimarino Cancer Support Group
Several months ago a local meeting was convened by Mr Robin Brassington, executive officer of the Cancer Support Group, with the idea of setting up a group in this area. The role of a Cancer Support Group is to provide sensitive, caring support for cancer patients and their families, so that they can understand better and cope with the disease of cancer. Some volunteers have had cancer themselves and survived, some have had a close association as a family member or as a friend of a cancer patient. On 28 September the Waimarino Cancer Support*' Group was formed. Local co-ordinator is Mrs Wyn McCarthy assisted by Mrs Val Farkes, Ohakune. Waimarino now becomes the thirteenth group in the Central Districts Division of the Cancer Society of Ne\^ Zealand which includ^B Hawkes Bay, Taranaki, Wanganui and Manawatu. The next meeting of the local group will be held on Tuesday 1 November 8pm at Mrs Val Littlewoods residence Raetihi. Anyone interested is invited to come to the meeting and learn more about the workings of the group. Your input is needed so that the group can become more valuable to the people it seeks to help.
