Changes in Post Office hours to take effect this week
As from next Friday 14 October the Raetihi and Ohakune Fost Offices will be changing their hours on Friday evenings. Instead of closing down at 5.00pm and re-opening at 6.30 until 8.00pm, the Raetihi and Ohakune Fost Offices will remain open until 6.00pm. This change of times comes about as a result of a 6-week nationwide survey by Fost Office staff to observe the tfading patterns of its cUstomers in order to achieve economies where possible. According to this survey there has been a tail-off in the number of customers and transactions at the Ohakune and Raetihi Fost Offices between 6.30 and 8.00 on Friday evenings, said Ohakune postmaster, Mr Sam Swarbrick. "We.will now be offering full postal and banking facilities right up to 6pm on Friday evenings," he said. At the Waiouru Community Centre Fost Office where Thursday is the late night the hours will also be shortened as from Thursday 13 October from 9am to 6pm (no telegraph after 5pm). At the Waiouru Camp Fost Office the hours remain unchanged. There the Fost Office will re-open between 7 and 8pm on Thursday evenings. At National Fark Fost Office, which opens at 9.00am until 12.30 and from 1.30 to 5.00pm Monday to Friday, the hours will remain the same for the time being though it is understood that a similar survey is being undertaken. Staff at National Fark do have a monthly shopping afternoon when, on one Thursday in every four, the Post Office closes at 2.30pm.
