Round the Mountain Relay next month
The annual Round-the-Mountain-Relay is to be held this year on Saturday 1 5 October. This race, organised by the Army Training Group in Waiouru is a sponsored endurance event to encourage regional support and is expected to attract about 45 teams. The total distance Govered is exactly 100 miles ( 160kms). There are 10 members to each team and, depending . on the grade, each member will have to run either one leg of 10 miles or two legs of
5 miles. There are 5 grades: Ladies Open; Veterans; Composite; Colts and Mens Open. Members of" the Ladies Open, Veterans and Composite may elect to run two relays of 5 miles, the Colts and Mens Open must run 10 miles. Of the 45 teams ten will be civilian teams, the remainder military, police and other government departments — Customs won the event last year. This will be the 7th consecutiye year for this event which was won in a
time of 11 hours last year. Depending on the grade, each team will start at a different time and all .commence their runs from Waiouru along the Desert Road in an anticlockwise direction towards Turangi. The Ladies start at 03.00am; the Veterans at 03.30; the Colts at 04.00, the Composites at 04.30 and the Mens at 06.00.
