Promotions meeting

The Ohakune Promotions Association held their monthly meeting on Monday 12 September. John Lowrie, the regional liaison officer of the Tourism Advisory Service, which is part of the New Zealand Tourist and Fublicity Department, was guest speaker. Mr Lowrie explained that his role was to liaise with the private sector in the marketing and promotion of tourist facilities and he was responsible for the area between New Plymouth and Napier as well as for Nelson and Marlborough. The meeting discussed the possibility of mounting a promotion for the May holidays next year and there was also some discussion about summer activities in the Waimarino area. The 40,000 Ohakune/ Raetihi promotional brochures "Where Adventure s Begin" were also discussed and while it was agreed that there were a few

mistakes the overall impression was that the result was 'passable1. John Lowrie suggested that in future the Tourist and Publicity Department may help with the brochure in some way.
