Restaurant granted licence
The Village Steakhouse, in Ohakune Junction's Thames Street, has been granted a food and entertainment liquor licence. Faul Harris and Russell Frouse who operate the Village Steakhouse first applied for the full licence late last year and were granted it at the end of last month. Up until now they have had a BYO licence but felt ^his was not meeting the ^peeds of the increasing number of overseas visitors who were comirig to Ohakune and expected to find the same high class tourist facilities that they would to find elsewhere.
Under the new licence, alcohol may be served between 11.00am and 01.00am the next day, Monday to Sunday inclusive but the restaurant is now limited to seat 38 people in the dining room whereas before it could accomodate 60 diners at any one time. However, a new bar/lounge area upstairs is being provided for another 12 -guests. Messrs Harris and Frouse plan to stay open over Christmas — under the terms of the new licence, Village Steakhouse will not be able to lease the premises out as they did last year.
