Entertainment

There appears to be a fair amount of criticism aimed at the locals in your 'letter to the editor' column re the August Scene. I would like to point out a fact that they all appear to overlook. There is no doubt that the August school holidays are the busiest trading time of the year and likewise most of the staff at various businesses are also extremely busy. You can't expect these people to go out and 'rage' or supervise entertainment every night and then put in a days work next day. I for one would soon dismiss staff if they turned up looking like an accident about to happen during this time of the year. As far as our out-of-town guests go — skiing is an expensive sport and to go out every night for them would be more expense. Also if you happened to take the time to look you would see that the August holidays are a time of many family get togethers and they all have small children with them, they don't want to be looking for babysitters every night. So have your August Scene, it's a great idea, but tone it down a little, and leave the local staff etc alone. Why not run a 'Summer Scene' when we are not too tired to participate.

Editor 's Note Because of the lack of attendanee at the first two functions all subsequent activities for August Scene were cancelled.
