Repairs and maintenance

The Property Office handles up to 500 requests for individual items of maintenance each week and yet is no more than three weeks behind schedule with any of their routine repair and maintenance requests. It was pointed out that such things as the installation of showers however is not a routine job nor is the replacement of carpet and lino, blinds and spouting which is done by private contractors on a rotational basis. Some delays can be expected for this sort of work. At the previous month's

meeting it was suggested that delays in getting maintenance and repair work done could have been caused by the ruling that no MOWD staff should enter a house and undertake any work in the absence of the tenant. It was felt that repair and maintenance work could be speeded up if this ruling was relaxed but MOWD staff themselves decided that they would prefer not to work on a house in the absence of the tenant, "just in case anything goes wrong"
