1 know that the nasty accident a few weekends ago on the Rochfort/Rugby grounds/ Raetihi Road corner has been anticipated with dread, by more locals than myself, for »sometime. ^1 hope there has been warnenough and efforts will -^Pnckly be made to make the corner safer by: 1. Sign posting to indicate both angle and direction at the corner, near the rugby driveway. 2. Realigning of the corner and the rise and repairing the tarseal on the inside of the corner coming towards Ohakune. It's broken and crumbling state encourages traffic to take the corner too wide. 3. Indicating clearly to Rochfort 'shortcut' traffic that visibility is very limited for traffic approaching over the rise from the town. In years past, the railway track ran along the top of the rise across the road and it was well signposted. It was a naturai slowing down point, bothways, before the corner. Now, with winter weekend influxes of 'stranger' traffic, rugby fixtures, spectator cars parked haphazardly, and pedestrians (often children) coming to and from town the resulting muddle is a nightmare.
