Search for Turner Family
The Hokitika Police, the local residents, the professional chopper-hunters, air search and rescue authorities welcomed the involvement and presence of Marshal Gebbie, Murray Griffin and Kevin Murcott from National Park. Toby Clark, the helicopter pilot and a past resident of the West Coast, (now stationed in Taupo) must be highly commended for thoroughly searching every gully, stream and mountain top and coastline from Fox Glacier to the Haast. Toby and the other pilots clocked up over 40 hours of actual flying time, leaving at 8.30am and returning to
base at 5pm each day. The local boys reluctantly returned home last Sunday, mentally and physically exhausted. Two helicopter s will remain in the Franz Josef and Mt Hutt area, following through any further leads. Local professional chopper-hunters are also remaining on red alert. The organisers of the Roy Turner Search Fund Appeal wish to express their 'heartfelt' thanks to every one who contributed so generously to allow the private search to continue after the official search was called off. More than $25000 has been collected and contributions are still coming in.
