• Earthquake A small tremor was reported in parts of the Waimarino at 7.37 last Friday morning. It was felt as a single jolt. • Flying saucer A reliable source in Rangataua reported that several children had seen an object resembling a flying saucer in the sky last Thursday afternoon. At about the same time some independent adult witnesses had observed a flock of seagulls behaving in a very agitated manner. • College Gymnasium The Ruapehu College and Community Gymnasium will be opened at 10.30am on Friday 5 August. • Ohakune's water The Ohakune Borough Council received from the Department of Health a report on a test carried out by the DSIR on the council's water supply. The report was very favourable and one councillor, in extolling the virtues of Ohakune water, claimed it was^flfc so full of the many important trace elements and ^1 f minerals essential to the quality of life "that many people would be dying to get it into their system." "A most unfortunate choice of phrase" commented the Mayor.
