National Park School

Emergency phone lists Parents are reminded that there is now an emergency telephone list system in operation to advise if the school is to be closed for the day or late in starting because of bad weather. There is a duty list of people who are responsible for phoning groups of parents sometime after 7.30am when the decision is made — parents are asked not to phone staff before then.

Old photographs If parents have any old photographs of the National Park area, or relics of the past, the school would like to borrow them for the local history display. Newsletter distribution The school's fortnightly newsletter is now mailed to the Taumarunui Gazette, the Taranaki Daily News and the Waimarino Bulletin, as well as IZU

Taumarunui Radio. Parents who have any newsworthy item, or coming events please send it to school so that it can be included in the ( next newsletter. Taha Maori week Mr Wally Penetito, a Maori Advisor from the Wanganui Education Board, visited the school to discuss planning for the Taha Maori Week starting on 25 July. Wally has provided lots of resource material as well as spending time in the classroom with the children. Skiing programme The Education Board has approved the Ski Programme for 1983. The classes involved will be Std. 4, F.l and F.2 and will operate along similar lines to previous years. The children are now involved in a fitness programme in an effort to be fit for skiing. The first visit to the mountain will include the Ski Patrol for mountain safety instruction, and the Top o' the Bruce for boot and ski fitting instructions. The school is extremely grateful to Ruapehu Alpine Lifts, Top o' the Bruce Ski Shop and Ruapehu Transport Ltd for the services they provide so generously to the school. Without their help and the assistance given by parents and friends the school could not operate the programme.
