Saturday 25 June A small field in good conditions played a par competition with D. Windle 3 up and K. Tapp 2 up. G. Kerins scored the only 2. Sunday 26 June 2nd qualifying round, postponed from the previous week due to snow, was played. Top scores in the seniors B. Cranston 66 nett, N. Cranston 69, I. Godfrey 71, D. Windle 72, T. Geraghty 72. Two's were scored by R. Martin, J. Cranston and D. Windle. Juniors: T. Deighton 72, J. Blackburn, T. Lenoel and K. Woollett all 73. Support for Telethon was incorporated in the qualifying round, with every putt costing 10 cents. The best results were: Ladies - P. Burns and M. Brown 33 putts. Senior men - D. Windle and R. Dally 29 putts. Junior men - N. Clarke 28 putts. Telethon received $162.00 from this event. The first zones match for Waimarino was played at Taihape against Marton. The Waimarino team of G. Allerby, B. Drinkwater, J. Summerhays and R. Pearson had a good 5-1 win. At Waimarino, Tawhero were too strong for Parapara winning 6-0 in another zones match.
