Raetihi Plunket News

The Raetihi sub-branch of the Waimarino Plunket Society recently held its A.G.M. on Wednesday 18 May in the Presbyterian Hall, Raetihi. Those that attended had the opportunity to view Emma Jane Jewellery, pot plants, and Rawleighs' products. The retiring president, Rowena Kui, presented her report to the meeting. In it she reports. that fundraising has become more difficult as other new community projects are developed. With these difficulties in view an approach was made to the Ohakune sub branch to propose amalgamation but after a combined meeting it was decided to maintain the status quo. Fundraising activities during the year have includ-

ed a variety of small projects such as waitressing, trestle hire, cake stalls and pixie photos. The Annual Appeal succeeded in raising $510. A subcommittee from within the Raetihi sub branch was formed to put the Car Seat Hire Scheme into action. They report that the Car Seat Hire Scheme has been a great success thanks to the donations from: AHI ($50), Young Wives ($130), Ohakune Plunket ($68), Rotary ($100), Wanganui Savings Bank ($200) and Mrs Graeme ($5). With these donations the existing seats were purchased. Other local sponsors who helped with the donation of prizes for a childrens col-, ouring competition included: Gay and Wendys,

Raetihi Fruit and Garden Centre; Wellington Cafe; Kui & Griffin, Raetihi Drycleaners; Raetihi Sports Centre; Waimarino Draglines. The car seats which were ordered last September were not delivered until April with the seat shells coming from Australia. A pair of twins are now using the baby car seats and the 8 love seats are all allocated with only one second-hand seat available for short-term hire. The newly elected committee is as follows: President: Kathy McLean. Secretary: Margaret Martin. Treasurer: Carolyn Singleton. Car Seat Committee: Kathy Enright, Margaret Martin. Returning Committee: Kathy Enright, Kathy Forster, Lois McLean, Jenny Searle. New members: Michelle Eaton, Marion Dillon,

Chris Windle, Anne Summerhays. Four representatives at the branch meetings: Jenny Searle, Kathy McLean, Margaret Martin and Carolyn Singleton. At the first meeting of the new committee forthcoming money raising activities were discussed. These will include a stock drive, a sponsored golf tournament and the sale of bagged sheep manure. If anyone is interested in buying sheep manure, contact one of the committee members. It will be selling at $2 a bag — trailer loads can also be arranged. The Car Seat Hire Scheme is one of the areas for which money will be raised this year. The Car Seat Scheme is a worthwhile service for the community and we encourage people to support it.
