Visiting Naturopath
About 15 people attended a 2-day workshop seminar in Tainui Street, Ohakune, recently on stress and health.
The weekend workshop was conducted by visiting naturopath Mr Ken Wilson from Nelson. Mr Wilson emphasised a raw food diet and advised that at least 70% of every meal should be uncooked. "Only cook what has to be cooked — such as potatoes," he said, and preferably Tive' food rather than 'dead'.
As an example of live foods he gave freshly grown vegetables and particularly sprouting vegetable and seeds. 'Dead' food included meat and dairy products. Seeds and vegetables from which sprouts could be grown included linseed, rye, wheat, buck-wheat, millet, alfalfa, red clover, lentils and chick peas. Mr Wilson also recommended bee pollen for its natural healing qualities. Another unusual treatment he advised for poor circulation was cayenne pepper — two or three teaspoonsful a day would prevent problems arising, he said. Those attending the workshop sampled a variety the foods prepared.
