The following cases which resulted in convictions were heard in the Ohakune District.Cou"*t last Thursday, before Judge E.W. Irwin. John Charles Gupwell, 23, fitter, of Ohakune admitted a charge of causing bodily injury to Nick Lester Pukape by carelessly using a Ford motor vehicle on SH 49 near Waiouru on 26 March. He was convicted and fined $300 with $20 court costs and disqualified from driving for 9 months. Michael Symons, 25, sideshow attendant of Manurewa, admitted a charge of smoking cannabis and a charge of possessing cannabis in Ohakune on 8 June. He was convicted and fined $100 with $20 court costs on the first charge and $150 with $20 costs on the second charge.

Maurice Leslie Pulman, 21, forestry hand of Raetihi admitted a charge of procuring possession of a .270 rifle without a permit. He was convicted and fined $75 with $20 court costs. Joseph Albert Waara, 23, driver of Raetihi admitted to two charges of driving while disqualified — the first in Ward Street, Raetihi on 15 April, the second in Clyde Street, Ohakune on 22 April. He was convicted and fined a total of $450 on both charges with court costs of $20 on each charge. Llewellyn Cadwallader, 45, shepherd of Ohakune, admitted to a charge of driving with an excess breath alcohol level of 1200:1 in Ohakune on 16 April. He was convicted and fined $425 with $20 court costs and disqualified from driving for 9 months.

William George Pierre Taku, 22, unemployed labourer of Palmerston North, admitted two charges of theft at Waiouru on 10 June. The first charge involved one pair of jeans valued at $30, one pair of 'Nomad' shoes ($30) and one pair of football socks ($5). The second charge involved the theft of a mens wallet and contents valued at $16. He was convicted and remanded to the Palmerston North District Court on 4 July for a probation report- and sentence. He was released on bail of $500 with a surety of a like amount. Neville Thomas Adams, 38, driver of Ohakune admitted to a charge of breaching the terms of a limited driving licence in Ohakune on 15 April. He was convicted and fined $325 with court costs of $20.
