No more disco says Piper
Paul Piper, principal partner in Pipers Kings Court licensed restaurant and accommodation complex at Ohakune Junction has decided to discontinue the disco cabaret previously operated at the property. Paul Piper has operated a very successful ski lodge at National Park for sixteen years. Following the financial collapse of Kings Court late last year, the property was purchased at auction by Paul Piper. Since then some $100,000 has been spent on improving and upgrading the property for the coming ski season. Queens Birthday weekend was the first under operation by the new owners and "was a shambles but lots of fun" said Piper. "However will definitely not contii^B with the disco and cabareu We have spent a lot of money here and want our guests in both the ski lodge and restaurant to feel relaxed and comfortable. The disco lowered the whole tone of the place." Piper plans to reduce the size of the dance floor and provide much more lounge seating. A large raised, open fire is already being installed in what was the disco room to provide warmth and a focal point. This room will also be available for functions catering for about 100 people. Another lounge room is being converted to a dining room for private functions for up^a 20 people. For entertainment, plans are afoot to have a pianist providing relaxed background music and suitable guest artists will be employed to supplement the pianist.
