New Creche facilities

The decision by Turoa Skifields to establish a creche at the top of the Ohakune Mountain Rpad, will be welcomed by parents of young children. The creche will be in the Alpine Lodge at the base of the first chairlift and near the Valley Beginners tow and carparks. Many young parents visiting the mountain to show their youngsters "real live snow" for the first time often express a wish to try skiing themselves but, having to make arrangements for child-minding, find it a major problem .... that is until now.

The creche, which will be supervised by experienced personnel from Ohakune, will also allow families who are already skiers, to ski with their toddlers for an hour or so until they get cold or tired and then hand them over to creche staff who will look after them until their parents return from the slopes. "This is an important safety consideration as well" said Turoa Skifield manager Robin Foubister. "Whilst we love to have kids on the mountain, they do get cold very quickly and must be supervised all the time".
