MOTUKARAKA.

Ere you receive this the momentous question of the da y will have been decided by the ballot box. Mr Houston has been the only one to address us here, as unfortunately the time of Mr Treunsou’s meeting was only known to a few, but he would have met the electors had he not been called away on ac ■ count of the elections coining on so early. The result here today is Houston fifteen, Troimson fourteen and Dargaville one. I did not see the polling places for the Bay of Islands gazetted the same as the other electorates were ; and we did not re - ceive any notice as to the time and place of polling until (Mr Andrews) the Returning officer here came to Ihe School-house this morning-, election day .«• Who is to blame for this ? As some of the electors were voting (Mr Andrews) the Returning officer informed them that at the last election here no one voted far Mr Trounson. Now that I know to be untrue for seven votes were recorded here in his favour. Such a statement, T think, was trying io makeMrTrounson appear somewhat unpopular. One silly mischievous election dodge was a statement made at Taheke that two casks of beer had been sent np for the electors by- Mr Trounson. The diffusion of so much printed matter does not seem to have done Mr F. D. much good in this district. The new Hall is nearly finished, and will be opened about December 16th when it is proposed to have a social gathering. .The next meeting of our .Band of Hope will.be held there. The measles seem to have passed .us here with the exception of our mail contractor (Win. Firmigan) and his brother. The Kohu Kohu mill is still working, and some from Motukaraka have found employment there. Bush falling and fencing are the only things being done about here at present.
