Dargaville has been seen here for three days, but no.public meetiug has yet been held in his behalf, except that he was once seen addressing a man and a dog on the corner. Messrs Hume and Ellis, gumdiggers’ delegates, met with great success throughout the North. They are sent to further Mr Trounson’s candidature, and received almost unanimous pledges at Waimate, F.awerua, Mangakahia, Kaikohe, Ohaawai and elsewhere. Paparoa, today. James Harrison addressed a large gathering here last night. Meeting vary enthusiastic, dectors here will give him strong support. He is gaining ground everywhere. The meeting at Waipu was a great success. Majority safe. The Bay ElectionIn answer to a telegram from the Gumdiggers’ Executive Committee, the Secretary of the Auckland National Association wires : ‘ They recommend support to candidates believed to be the most honourable and upright men, without consulting candidates, Trounson was not consulted nor is he pledged to our platform. Fitzpatrick, Chair mar. of Gumdiggers’ Executive Committee, has gone to Kawakawa to further Mr Tronnsuu’s can didature. and will address a public meeting there tomorrow night, A stro lg Ladies’ Committee has been formed at Dargaville and Mangawhare to forward Mr Trounson’s election. Mr Trounson addressed the electors at Russell, Mr Horace Williams being in the chair. It was a large meeting, including a number of ladies. Judging from the frequent manifestations of approval, those present were in full accord with the political views of the candidate.
