ELECTION A OILS.

Mr F. J. Dargaville started on his electioneering tour northward, but returned after a few days’ absenc*. Some are asking whether he came back to consult his father on certain points in his lesson which had slipped his memory. His meetings have not been the successes some would imagine after reading the accounts of them in his own paper. At Omapere he is said to have received a vote of confidence, but at Towai his own paper says he refused to accept one. Something behind this prob - ably. A gentleman from Towai says that his speech could be written on the back of an envelope, and that in course of his few remarks he said he was in favour of the Government owing the Croton laud?. This raised a laugh and the candidate becoming confused is said to have drawn from his pocket the speech which he had intended to recite and asked permission to read it. There was no expression of confidence but the meeting, we are told, desired tiini to go home and send his father to do his talking. Mr Trounson has been away in the extreme North addressing the electors at Parengarenga, Oruru (where he received a vote of confidence), Mongonui, Whangaroa, Kaeo, Kaitaia and other places. He

expresses general rnf'e.inetioa with the way in wh’ch he has been received and speaks very hopefully of his chances of election. Mr Houston was present at Mr Trounson’s meeting at Mongonui and the utmost good feeling prevailed. The Auckland Liberal Association has decided to support, the following candidates:—Auckland City, Sir George Grev, W. JNapicr and T, Thompson: Waipa, G. Peacocke; Franklin, Major Harris: Manukau, Sir M.® O’Borke : Waikato, Hon. A. J. Cadman. Mr Houston addressed the electors at Kawakawa on Monday night and received a vote of confidence. The Weekly News savs “ questions were asked and answered satisfactorily,’excepting one or two referring to the liquor laws. ”
