PORT ALBERT.
(From our own Correspondent). The Mutual Improvement Society met for the usual weekly meeting- on Saturday, September 16th, the ' Vice-President in the chair Tier was a good attendance ex members and friends : several from the barque Kassa who kindly favoured the audience with a few songs which were evidently much appreciated, judging from the applause which followed every item. At the close of the above meeting the company present held a public meeting for the purpose of considering the very important question of the women’s franchise. ..Mr J. Shepherd Esq. took the chair and in a

This was seconded by Miss Gubb and supported by some of those present ; some going as fur us to say that they thought it would be the turning point and would be likely to get the Governor on their side. The National Association met on Monday, September 21st at the Hall for the purpose of considering matters cf importance to the electors ox this Electorate. There was only a small number present, as the notice was short ; in fact a good many were under the impression that the meeting was to be on Friday night. It seems a pity that more notice is not given of most of out meetings held here as the district is so scattered, and people don’t go into the (town) every fi'i.V. The monthly meeting of the Tort Albert Band of Hope w<*s held in the Chapel on Tuesday but the weather, as usual when a temperance meeting is :o be held, was wet. There were ouly a few present and the programme was short only a few turning up to contribute. A very enjoyable evening was spent at the residence of Mr Mander, by the elders 'of the Sunday School. Games of all sorts were indulged in by old and young after which they all sat down to supper when a little more fun was indulged in, and then all started for their respective homes well pleased with their evening. The barque Kassa, Captain Creese, is nearly loaded, and the genial captain, who has made quite a good impression on the good people here, expects to get away this week. Sh will take away from here one of the best, if .ot the best, cargo of logs and flitches that has ever gone from the Kaip&ra, about 225000. I am sorry to report that the young man, Thomas Tugcr, who met with a serious accident at Mfinder’s Mill, is likely to lose his big toe.and will have to stay in the Hospital f>r some time to come, which will make it very ard for him as he has oolr been a short time tn- led. Some of ins mates at the Mill are thinking of getting a Concert up to defray the expense of the doctor’s bills.
