CORRESPONDENCE
[The editor is not responsible for opinions correspondents.] TO TUB EDITOR. Sir,—Will you allow me space in your valuable paper to express my diS&ust at the conduct of the Northern Wairoa Jockey Club in the late totalisator transaction. A "ticket was purchased by a company of three at the March meeting of the above Club, and by some mistake it was neglected to be registered on the Totalisator, possibly by the Totalisator clerk, a person who ought to have known better. When the purchasers presented their ticket for payment the Club refused on the strength of the above neglect, and told them if they did not like it they had the law to apply to (a rotten stick apparently) which the company did with the result that the case was thrown out in favour of the Club. Now sir, such conduct as this wants stamping out as it is an everlasting disgrace to all sporting communities, to take peoples’ money and tkeu laugh at the victims as the law does not aid people to recover in a case of this kind. I merely state these facts to show the public that their money is not safe on any totalisator and to warn them in future against such swindles. Most people imagine because the Colonial secretary collects l-J----per cent they have a right to recover, but according to the late ruling it is not so.— Tours etc. A True Sport
