Our telegrams have failed us this week through some cause unknown to us, This is all the more unaccountable as we learn from another source that the Auckland Savings Bank is in trouble and that th re is a rush on that instituti .n. Dargaville is not to be alone in the possession of shell paths, for Aratapu has made a start in the same direction. The shell paths in Dargaville are maintained by public funds, but in Aratapu Mr Vousden is the public benefactor. The road from Mr Vousden’s store to the wharf is about the most frequented portion of our main street, and during the wet weather has been very muddy and disagreeable. With thanks to the above-named gentleman the public now walk thereon in comfort. The following notices of motions have been given by the Chairman of tne Hobson County Council, and will come up for discussion at next meeting of the Council ; (1) That all rates unpaid within fourteen days from date of meeting be sued for forthwith. vided Rating of Native lands not passed this session.

About sixteen persons attended the week night service held at Aratapu on Tuesday evening. Rev. Joseph Blight presided, and after a few words of exhortation and prayer, and the singing of some hymns, the meeting proceeded to discuss the advisability of forming a branch of the Christian Endeavour Society. With the information to hand the meeting was unable to say whether the working of such a Society could be properly managed in this district. It was however decided to form a Society of Christian workers ou some such lines, and a Committee was appointed to consider the matter, and report on the best basis for such.
