An impression seems to have got about that certain persons in Dargaville and Maropiu were endeavouring to have the latter settlement made a terminus for the telegraph line from Dargaville, As far as we have been able to learn there is no foundation for this belief ; and we fail to see where any material benefit would accrue to Maropiu by such a course. The telephone on to Opanaki must be of service to Maropiu also, for the cost of connection with the passing line wouhl be small. We have seen the correspondence between Messrs Mitchelson Bros, and the Government and there is nothing in it to give colour to the rumours which have been in circulation. The firm asked permission in March last to erect a private telephone line along the Railway, but the price asked by Government was altogether out of proportion to the convenience the line would be to the firm and nothing more was done.
