OPANAKE.

(from: our own correspondent). A meeting of Europeans and Moaris was held at Opanaki on the 16th last re the necessity of a bridge over the Opanaki creek, the need of a Goods Shed at the railway terminus, and telephone communication with Dargaville. It was agreed that if the telephone service were carried to Maropiu onlv, that the Opanaki andMaunganui residents would be quite satisfied, and that the desire for a Goods shed be relinquished if the Government will give the necessary funds for the bridge. The County Engineer estimates the cost of bridge at £6OO. Considering the amount of traffic across the creek, and the great risk run by all travellers during the winter, it is to be hoped that our members will be able to obtain the sum required. Telegrams have been sent, to Messrs Houston and Eparaima te Kapa, our members, requesting them to strive hard for this much needed work. Our Schoolmaster, Mr Winching, has now taken up his abode in our midst, and as soon as the measle epidemic passes, School will be opened. One death from the measles occurred last week, and a few are suffering bad recoveries from inattention to their ailments. Constable McCoy paid us a visit last Friday, and conveyed a ratC® 'woman suffering from mental derangement to .. argaville to undergo inspection by Diu Norton. doctor considered her hardly bad enough to send to town, and she returned home on Saturday highly pleased with her trip.
