NORTHERN WAIROA RUGBY UNION.
The Annual meeting of the above Union was held on Wednesday evening in the Aratapu Hall, Mr George Meredith, vice-presi-dent, in the chair. Four Clubs were represented as follows : Kopuru F. C —Messrs J os. Molloy, W. Forsdick and W. S. Smith. Aratapu F. C.— Messrs E. Bassett, T. Nield and J. Stallworthy. Maropiu F. C.—-Mr E. Trounson. Mangawhare F. C.—Messrs A. Stehr and Hai'kness. The Balance, sheet for Year was read shewing Receipts—Balance from 1891 £5 7s Sd, Proceeds from steamer £2l 10s 6d, Gates upriver, £1 13s 6d, down river £l2 3s sd, Donations £7 12s 6d, Club Subscriptions £6 2s, Proceeds Auckland Match £39 8s 6d, Total £94 0s Id. Expenditure—Steamer charter £2l ; Expenses at gates up-river 16s, down-river £1 12s ; Stamps and telegrams £1 15s 3d ; Referee’s expenses £6 ; Medals £8 11s ; Advertising and printing £5 7s ; Caps £6 11s : Mr O’Connor (on a/c banquet) £lB 5s ; Rink hire £1 10s ; Jerseys £6 0s 9d ; Expenses of Auckland match (steamer, band and gates) £ll 18s 6d f Balance £4 13s 7d. Total £94 0s Id. ‘V Statement of Assetts and Liabilities up to date showed a debit balance of about £4 los. The Balance Sheet was then adopted. Mr N. Moros wrote to say that he was endeavouring to form a Dargaville-Manga-whare Club to play under the Wairoa Union, and also offered his ground free of charge for any matches the Union liked to play there. Mr Moros’ offer of his ground was accepted with thanks. Mr R. Hume wrote that he had gi-eat hopes of being able to form a strong Mangawhare .(Football Club under the Wairoa Union. Messrs Stehr and Harkness attended as delegates of the proposed Club, by
direction of those moving in the matter. The first meeting was called for Saturday next. Mr E. Bassett expressed his pleasure at the formation of a Mangawhare Club ; it brought his mind back to the many tough games of the old days. It was decided to accept the Mangawhare F. C. as a subscribing Club, and to allow Messrs Stehr and Harkness a voice in the meeting as representatives of the same. Mr J. M. Dargaville said that the Dargaville players had found their connection with the Dargaville-Hokianga Union to bo impracticable. He hoped to see the river pulling together again, and was willing to let by-gones be by-gones. Mr C. H. Matthews being unable to again take up the position of Secretary to the Union, it was decided on the motion of Messrs Molloy and Trounson that Mr Stall worthy be appointed Secretary. The following further selection of officei’s was then made.—Patron, T. Webb Esq. J. P. ; President, M. O’Connor Esq. ; VicePresidents, Messrs G, Meredith, Netaua Patuawa, A. E. Harding J.P., F. W. Matthews Senr., R, Masefield, A. R. Welham, N. Moros, R. Hume, H. Hammond, F. Norton J.P., D. Webster, J. M. Dargaville J. P., W. Vousden, W. J. Bassett and A. Rogers.
Mr J. M. Dargaville returned thanks for the honor done him and was specially thankful to Mr E. Trounson for proposing him as the relations between himself and that gentleman on football matters had been somewhat straine i. He would be pleased to contribute a substantial quota towards last year’s de ficit. Messrs S. Edmunds and T. Elliott were appointed Auditors for the year. It was resolved that the thanks of the meeting be tendered to the Mascotte Dramatic Club for their valuable financial assistance, amounting to £6 8s 6d. It was resolved that the Secretary and Mr E. Trounson be empowered to act for the Union in the matter of the train time-table. Mr A. Barclay wrote placing the Mangagawhare ground under the eontrol of the Union on the same terms as before. Accepted with thanks. It was decided not to offer caps or medals for competition, but that Senior teams play for the Matthews Challenge Cup. Also that a Challenge trophy be provided for the competition of the Junior teams. As the Auckland Match was the last game of 1892 it was decided not to ask for a fixture wil li Auckland until the first round of Club matches had been played. The fixtures were then drawn for, with the following results : Seniors. May 20th —Maropiu v. Kopuru at Dargaville —Aratapu v. Mangawhare, at Mangawhare. June 3rd—Maropiu v. Mangawhare at Mangawhare. —Aratapu v. Kopuru at Aratapu. June 17th—Aratapu v. Maropiu at Dargaville. —Mangawhare v. Kopuru at Mangawhare. Juniors. May 27th—Aratapu v. Kopuru on Kopuru ground.
