FOOTBALL.
The Auckland Rugby Union are expecting an early visit from a Northern Wairoa football team. Both, the Aratapu and Kopuru Clubs have started practice and the football season will soon be in full swing. We hear that the Maropiu Club held a a meeting last Saturday but our correspon - dent’s account is not yet to hand. The diggers in the Redhill and Tatarariki districts are talking of raising a team this season. The Quarter-Mile race open to members of the Aratapu F. Club was run on Saturday afternoon and R. Jamieson was the winner. A good deal of dissatisfaction has been expressed because of pose entries being allowed after the handicaps were declared. The Kopuru F. C. hold a practice tomorrow, in Mr Webb’s paddock, prior to which the Mile and 100 yards races are to be run. The following are the handicaps declared by Mr A. W. Legge.—Mile Race. T. Smith scr., W.
