CRICKET.
M ARKIED v. SINGLE. The last cricket match of the season was played at Mangawhare on Saturday last, and proved a very enjoymble and interesting contestIt was a contest between Benedicts and Bachelors, but many of the chosen on both sides were absent. Messrs Brown, Dargaville, Walker and Erench were missing from the latur and Messrs Blight, Masefield, Fjizpatibk. Webster and St:; I!worthy from the .iormer. The Bachelors went first to the wickets and put together 50 runs, Elliott and Stehr being the chief scorers. The Benedicts followed and Marcroft and Beale were the only ones to make a stand ; the latter was disposed of i:v one of Rico s beautiful catches. As the innings drew to an end the play became exciting ; Bassett was playing steadily and was good for several runs if only the •wickets could be kept up till two hits could secure a victory.
