TUG-OF-WAR SPORTS.
The Aratapu-Kopuru Tug-of-War Sports which take place to-morrow week in Mr Webb’s paddock have undoubtedly become popular. The handicaps appear in another column where it will he seen [hat the entries for the men’s handicaps alone number 195, an average of nearly twenty for each event. With the several heats that will bo made necessary by the numerous entries already received there will be between forty and fifty events to get off. The Committee hope to be able to fix the time for each event and competitors not on their marks at the proper time will be distanced, for with so much to get through no unnecessary delays can be permitted. The Wairwa 100yds Championship has drawn forth ten competitors and the event is looked forward to with keen interest. These races have; always been characterised by good sport as distinguished from the money making element. No other races outside the cities ever received such numerous entries and yet no prizes have yet been advertised. These are to be allotted on Monkay next and will as heretofore be in the form of trophies. A. hook of the races, is being printed in our office and as it will contain full particulars of the heats, prizes rules and other particulars wo hope it will meet with sufficient sale to repay the trouble and cost of its compilation.
