PORT ALBERT.

[from our own CORRESPONDENT.! .The Mutual Improvement Class met on Saturday, Nov 26th, the president, Mr 3?. Pitting, in the chair. As it was the night on which the Magazine was to be read, which being quite a novelty in this part, everyone was on the tiptoe of expectation, and a fair audience was attracted. There had been great talk about it beforehand, but when the Magazine came before the meeting it was found to contain only three contributions. The first one opened was on • Courting ’ ; the writer was evidently well acquainted with the subject ; some of the critics giving it as their opinion that the writer, if a lady, had been jilted a few times. The next was an essay on ‘"Vegetarianism,’ which was followed by one on ‘ Music.’ One good feature in the reading of these papers was that they were the means of bringing some of the younger members out of their shells. The following programme was also gone through : —Reading, on Courting, Mr E. Walker; Instrumental piece, Mrs D. Beeoroft; Song, 4.The Cricket on the Hearth,’ Mr C. Walker ; Reading, Mr L. P. Beeoroft. Mr Goodwin, the Inspector, was hereto inspect our school on Tuesday, Nov. 29th. hnd expressed his pleasure at the efficiency of the scholars. The extremely had weather that we have had these last four or five months has militated against the attendance, but I think on the whole that the report is very creditable to our teachers, cs some of the children "have three or four-mih'S to go ;>y-or very bad roads ; we trust in the forthcoming year that the attendance will he better.
