CORRESPONDENCE.

[The editor is not responsible for opinions expressed by correspondents.] (To the Editor) Sir, —The benefits that issued from the opposition of the recent rival Steamship) Companies, has, since their amalgamation, been strikingly portrayed. Instead of the promptness and punctuality which sprang- from the competition of the two services, and the satisfaction evinced in the conveyance of mails and passengers, a decided change has been developed, and secure in the monopoly they now enjoy, the present Company seem unable to do as well-n ith the combined fleet as tho old Company did with their tubs alone When the merging- of the two Companies into one, caused the opposition to cease, many people expressed their i'e ire that with the conclusion of the previous rivalry, the general satisfaction which was evinced iu the then existing order of thing's, would sonu disappear, and their anticipations have been confirmed by the policy of the surviving- Company now they have assumed undis pouted sway in the navigation of this river. And now sir, we view the fruits ot this alliance in theirregular and uncertain arrival of the steamer, and the consequent delaying of the mail, involvinglong- and patient waiting- of the publio, often iu the roughness of a cheerless winter nig-ht, before they eventually receive their mail. I trust that we will not be much longer subjected to this inconsiderate arrangement, and that ihe present discontent so widely felt, will lead Iho Compoany to adopt a more popular system than now existing,—l am, oto. One Or Tin? Public.
