WAIROA RUGBY UNION MEETING.

A meeting of the Wairoa Rugby Union was held last nig-ht at the Aratapu hotel, Mr M. O’Connor, President, in the chair, All

the Clubs were well represented and the meeting the largest yet held. The Secretary expilained that the Manager of the N.XT.S. Go., had agreed to charter the Osprey to the Union for £6 oil Saturday afternoon, but that boat was not ready and the Minnie Casey was to bring the Auckland team. He had offered the Company 50s for the Minnie and his offer had been accepted. It was decided to also charter the steamers Eopuru and Tangihua from Mr Harrison for Saturday afternoon. The price of tickets for the banquet was reduced to 5s for members of tho Union Clubs. Mr F. J. Dargaville protested against the action taken by the Secretary which caused the Aucklanders to change their intended qfface of putting up from Dargaville to Aratapu and asked for an explanation. The Secretary stated that after consulting several delegates ho had informed Mr'Dixon, Secvetaryof the Auckland R. U. that the Wairoa Union had arranged to entertain them at a banquet at Aratapu and it would be very inconvenient to the visiting team, as well as the local Union for them to take up> their quarters at Dargaville, more especially as, with one exception, the whole of the players resided at this part of the river. Mr Dargaville was not satisfied and said it was not tho first time the Dargaville poople had been ignored. Some discussion ensued and several delegates seemed to consider that tho inferosts of the game and Union had not been thought of by those who endeavoured to get the visitors up> river, Mr Bassett moved and it was almost unanimously’resolved “ that the meeting approves of the Secretary’s action in this matter.” Mr Dargaville said he could not understand why the banquet should be at Aratapu when the game was up river, but he did not wish to fall out. with the Aratapu people. Mr Molloy replied that some people considered themselves, but neither the interests of tho visitors nor the local Union. The President, Vice President, and Messrs Bonella, Bleaklev, F. Dargaville, and Stallworthy were appointed a Committee to meet the visitors on arrival.
