ARAPOHUE.

[from OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.! It would appear that concerts or musical entertainments are for the time being out of fashion, and therefore those who are not gifted with the genius of musio have an opportunity of having their latent talents developed. The Dramatic affair held in our hall last Wednesday was a success both from receipts and otherwise. Most of those taking part in the pieces had never previously appeared before an audience and will no doubt feel more at ease on any future occasion. Great credit is due to Mrs W. Webb for bringing the affatr to a successful issue. Eight pounds was netted as the result. I was not able to attend the settlers’ meeting re the Farmers’ Club held atMititai and believe it would be well if a meeting were convened at the School which is really the most central place for Arapoliue. I consider the union of settlers under a property constituted Society is very necessary anci desirable. Many will he inclined to be cautious in giving money to public objects. Subscribers would likoto know iviiat ammrnt was raised towards improving the cemetery and what use the same has been put to f This money was raised a year ago and not a thing yet done to the cemetery ; at least by the Trustees The Council have decided on not commencing work on the new road through Mr W. Dreadcn's till the settlers have done their portion. Probably this will act as a stimulus to them to push on the work' One section is already formed and another in progress. It is very desirable that the road should he made early that the settlers may be able to use it during the summer ns it may be Impassable iu winter. The back settlers have had exceptional difficulties to contend with in regard to roads and have made a commendable effort to secure hotter access to their holdings and they should not he further discouraged. , Now that the hush is cleared away so much at the hack, our district viewed on a line morning from some of the high ridges, affords many pleasing and charming prospects. A prettier piece of rural scenery it would he hard 10 find than that which is contained iu the view from the ridge at Bu-hanan’s, Lambs are becoming numerous and the season so far is very favourable. 1 should like to know if something cannot he done to coin pel the delivery of our mails at, contract time. The new Company arc reverting to the old system of coming up when it suits' We are certainty a very easy going lotto be satisfied with such an irregular delivery of our mails.
