CORRESPONDENCE.

[The editor is not responsible for opinions expressed by .correspondents.] ROAD GIVEN EREE BY MR. WORDSWORTH. (To the Editor ) Sir, 1 noticed in the report of a previous meeting of the Hobson County Council that Mr "Wordsworth was to be asked if lie would give land for a road to connect the formed Kopuru road with the road along Johnson’s and West’s, and while listening at the keyhole of the Council Chambers yes'erday I heard a letter read from Mr. Wordsworth in which he agreed to give the road asked for. Now Sir knowing the heavy compensation that the Council has had to pay for new roads and deviations and the trouble it has had in meeting the claims, I expected a very pretty resolution to be passed thanking Mr. Wordsworth for his extreme kindness and generosity etc., but the subsequent proceedings affected me so much for the Council’s want of courtesy that I was laid out on the Council’s door-step as neat as a limp rag, and did not find myself again until I was brought to by feeling- a weight on my chest like an elephant’s foot but on opening my eyes I found it was the fat boy of the office who had fallen over me, I asked him what had happened after I was laid out or rather after Mr. Wordsworth’s letter was read and he informed me that a resolution was passed instructing the Engineer to make a survey. I said what else ? Oh, nothing, that’s all.” As this confirmed my dim recollections of what had passed I crawled away for behold ! it dawued upon me that there is no such thing as gratitude in this world. I am, etc. Not A Councillor.
