SEVENTH SUCCESSFUL CONCERT. [from our own correspondent." l Our local Band, although not frequently brought before the notice of" the. readers of the Wairoa Bell, has during the time which has elapsed since its formation, been making strides apace in matters musical. The Bandsmen meet regu’ary on Saturday nights for practice, in the Paparoa Hall, the Band meeting room. Of late several of the members, who have possibly found the pursuit of music rather hard work, or who perhaps h ivenot sufficient time to devote lo practising, have resigned their positions. The ranks of the Bandsmen,however, though thus temporarily thinned, are soon reinforced by an infusion of new blood. Time will not permit at present, of my enumerating the members and their instruments, but in a future letter I hope to give a brief description of the Band as it is at the present time, I must just now hurry on my sluggish pen in order to give you a short report of the recent entertainment held under its auspices. Owing to the unfavourable weather, the concert, which was announced for the 3rd of June, had to be postponed to the following Friday, the 10th inst. A fine day followed by a magnificent moonlight night, on this occasion favoured the gathering, and a goodly number put in an appearance. After an interval of about ten minutes, the curtain rose on the amusing four scene Comedy ‘The Wager’ which elicited considerable applause and was apparently well received by the audience. T 1 e performers were as follows ‘ Adiiema ’ an artist, Mr. W. Hook, ‘ Lorengo ’ his friend, PI. Hook. ‘ Michael ’ Ja(j prosperous farmer, Mr. T. Skelton, ' Avis ’ heiress of the Daisy Farm, Miss Hunter. The singing of the National Anthem brought an enjoyable winter evening’s entert; inment to a close. Ihe customary dance, which, it is feared by some is becoming a too frequent occurence In connection with the social life of this district, continued for some hours.
